Another view of the city. The tall peak behind the city is Huayna Picchu ("young peak"). There is a trail that goes to the top but we passed on going up. It is a vertigo-inducing, nightmarish walk up. I cannot imagine what it would be like coming down.
The Inca people worshiped gods of nature, including Pachamama (Mother Earth). This is Sacred Rock, carved to mimic the shape of the mountain behind it.
We've left Machu Picchu and are now in Cusco, Peru. Cusco was the center of the Inca Empire. This is our hotel, Belmond Monasterio.
